And it all started very well for the Brazilian international. After just 12 minutes into his City career Robinho scored on a free-kick to secure a 1 – 0 lead.

Chelsea later won the game 1 – 3 but Robinho made a good debut and City fans will hope he continues his scoring form.

The most sensational transfer of this summer was without a doubt Robinho’s move to City from Spanish giants Real Madrid. After a long flirt during the summer with league rivals Chelsea Robinho ended up signing a contract with the North-western club.

Robinho met with City manager Mark Hughes in London before flying of to South America for Brazil’s 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Fellow Brazil internationals Jo and Elano are already at the club, something that helped him sign for City.

“I play with Jo and Elano in our national team, they are my friends and I know them very well. Having such great players already at City was one of the reasons why I decided to come here”, Robinho told the club’s official website.

He added: “I knew that Manchester City is a very big club, there’s a great team there already and this is an exciting project. I liked the project, and when City made the offer to Real Madrid, I decided to come here. I liked the plans that Manchester City have and I want to succeed with them.”

This is a proof of “money talks”. City’s new owners claim they have made an offer of €30 for Real Madrid’s Robinho. Chelsea’s CEO Peter Kenyon stated that he was confident Robinho would join Chelsea, which doesn’t seem to be the case.

City’s new owners are Abu Dhabi United Group, which seems to have deep pockets.
